Club Philosophy
Since 1983, the objective of the EJBC is to teach young badminton players the fundamental strokes and necessary footwork in order to play and enjoy badminton for life; to know the rules, scoring and etiquette of the sport and to understand the basic tactics of singles and doubles play and to have an enjoyable experience.
We also encourage tournament play and provide coaching and support to club members committed to competing.
HOUSE LEAGUE

Anatomy of a lesson
Each session is comprised of a warm-up and technical training that will constitute 60 minutes. This is followed by match play in a ladder format that is supplemented with coaching during play to ensure skills are being applied correctly.

Strokes
Service: both forehand and backhand; short, drive and high serves
Service returns: net, drive, and dump returns
Clears: defensive, attacking
Drops: straight, x-court, diagonal, sliced, round the head
Smash: straight, x-court, round the head, jump, sliced
Return of smash: block to the net, flat drive, lift
Drive: down the line, at an opponent or diagonally
Underhand drop: from mid/backcourt
Dab: “kill” at the net, panhandle grip
Netplay: straight, x-court, backhand, forehand
Lifts: forehand and backhand from the net
Backhand: Applies to most strokes

EQUIPMENT
The Club provides the poles, nets and shuttles that are required for badminton.
Members are expected to provide their own racquets, protective eyewear (mandatory*), and shoes with “gum” (non-marking) soles (also mandatory).
We do offer, on loan, some racquets and protective eyewear. These can be signed out at the front desk if you should forget to bring your own.
*Protective Eyewear is a condition of our insurance coverage
DRESS CODE
At a minimum, appropriate athletic attire is required. The preference is for at/above-the-knee shorts/skirts and T-shirts or collared shirts.
Members are expected to provide their own racquets, protective eyewear (mandatory*), and shoes with “gum” (non-marking) soles (also mandatory).
Warm-up pants and tops are acceptable during the winter months when the gym is somewhat cold. Jeans and running/walking shoes are NOT acceptable!
